Pt. Gauri Dutt Sharma, a staunch nationalist started a small Deva Nagri School 1882 for teaching and popularizing Hindi. It became high school in 1921 and subsequently upgraded to intermediate school in 1939. It was the time when national liberation movement was at its peak and Deva Nagri School was the center of its activities. Having earned extra ordinary reputation for teaching and discipline as well, Deva Nagri Shiksha Samiti, headed by Pt. Prayag Dutt Sharma as President and Seth Sharda Prasad as Hony. Secretary decided to start degree classes in 1958 and Shri. K.D. Agarwal the then Principal of Deva Nagri. Inter College, was appointed as the first Principal of Deva Nagri Degree College

Deva Nagri College Meerut, one of the premier co-educational institutes of western Uttar Pradesh, located in the heart of city is primarily known for its discipline and producing skilled students, started functioning in July 1958 with 25 students of B.Sc. (Maths Group), has made tremendous growth with time and the sapling planted with a aim to provide quality education has grown up as a tree of knowledge. M. Sc. Chemistry (1964), M.Sc. Mathematics (1965) and B. Sc. Zoology (1966) M.A. Economics (1966), B.Com (1973), M.Com (1979) M.Sc. Botany (1982), M.Sc. Botany (1982) were started. M.Sc. Physics (2000), M.A. English (2001) and B.Ed (2005) and B.Sc. in Computer Sciences (2011) courses were started to provide adequate facility to the students of Meerut. College has strength of about 5,000 students with the Faculties of Sciences, Commerce, Arts and newly started Education Faculty. College has been accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC in session 2014-15. University Grant Commission has accorded college with CPE (College with Potential for Excellence) status. College is running IGNOU Centre efficiently.

Teachers of any institution are the backbone of knowledge society and they are very important asset of society. Deva Nagri College, Meerut is privileged to have dedicated and well qualified teaching staff members who have profound knowledge of their subjects. Most of the teachers hold Ph.D. degree in their subjects. They continuously engage themselves in research and academic activities and participate in National and International Seminars/Workshops, conference etc. to update their knowledge and skills. They are members / life members of academic societies. The College gives equal weightage to teaching and research and it offers good research facilities in the subject of Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, English, Economics and Commerce. Every year number of students is awarded Ph. D. degree of Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut under the guidance of our college teachers. To fulfill our commitment for society we have established a Soil Testing Lab in the Department of Botany where we provide facilities to farmers and the people interested to get their soil and water samples tested for various deficiencies and impurities. Food testing lab is being established in college to check food adulteration to the college stake holders as well as common people. Organic compost making facility is also provided by Department of Botany in college.

Excellence is an unopposed bench mark of quality and the excellence of our efforts is measured through our students who continuously figure in University Merit list. Four students topped in university ranking in session 2018-19. This has now become a tradition. Holistic approach for teaching and learning not only provide outstanding result in university exams but our students also fared well in various competitive examination. The students of college have good employability ratio in comparison to other institutes.

The College has adequate infrastructure to cater the need of students. It has separate and spacious buildings for all, departments with well equipped laboratories. Keeping a pace with technological advancement the college has constructed a computer laboratory for providing opportunities to students to learn with new technology.

Need of a good library cannot be undermined at any stage of learning, the college spent good amount of fund on its library. All Departments maintain their departmental library along with Centralize facility. Approximately 8000 square feet built up area to be used as reading space is available at the ground floor of central library. Eighty thousands books gifted by Rotary Club Saket, Meerut stacked in well furnished stack rooms. Library has been digitalized so students can search books with the help of computers. We have an old and very rich central library, thousands of books systematically stacked in spacious and reading friendly blocks. Reading rooms of library are designed in keeping in mind the need of students so the reading can be health activity. Central library has book bank facility for poor students. College also Provide financial support to economically weak students. All the departments of college are connected to high speed internet facility.
