DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS
Mathematics is the queen of all sciences therefore the importance of mathematics in any curriculum is indispensable. This is a science that is being used by all other disciplines, that is why its growth over the years has been phenomenal. Given this, Mathematics was one of the first subjects to be introduced in the college therefore, the Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest department of the college which was initially started for Under-Graduate classes in 1958 with the inception of the college. Later on, Post-Graduate classes were started in 1965.
The department has travelled a long journey of glory and success and has maintained its rich tradition of excellent results, the highest level of discipline, and cultural activities. As far as the results are concerned the results of M.Sc. classes have been 100% during the last many years. Our students are consistently securing gold medals and merit positions in the University merit list. To name a few Mr. Deepak Gupta, Ms. UmmeFerwa, and Ms. Kinjal Agarwal bagged gold medals in the year 2014, 2017, and 2019 respectively. In the last decade, over 20 students have secured university merit positions and brought glory to the department.
The journey of the excellent academic performance by our brilliant students is not only confined to the University merit list. Our students are continuously clearing the NET/JRF/GATE exams. Over the last few years,more than 15 students have qualified NET/JRF.
Recently, an eminent alumni Mr. M. L. Nayyar made a generous donation which led to the formation of the Gurudakshina scholarship which is awarded every year to the best all rounder student of the M.Sc. course.
Various cultural activities among the departmental students are organised and promoted under the auspices of “Ramanujam Mathematical Society”. The society organises debates, mathematical quizzes, extempore, etc. on regular basis. PostGraduate students also celebrate Welcome and Farewell parties under the banner of this society. The Annual Youth Festival, organised by the college, is a great platform for the students where they can exhibit their talent. The students take part in various activities like music, dance, poster making, debate, extempore, rangoli making and also, various sports activities.
The faculty members are actively engaged in research activities. Over the years more than two hundred research papers have been published in various National & International referred and peer-reviewed journals. The research scholars and faculty members have attended and presented papers in various National and International seminars. So far more than forty students have been awarded Ph.D. degrees and at present 12 students are pursuing their research under the able guidance of the faculty members. Over the years, 11 books have been authored by the faculty members and published under the banner of renowned publication houses.
